What good acoustic guitar sound means, and how to appreciate it

Take some time to listen, why it is important to assess your listening ?

How to evaluate your guitar sound ?

No matter what instrument you play, or what kind of music you like, it is very important  to improve your listening skills.  Music is based on listening.

Sit down, tune the guitar and play a chord.

Play it slowly, so you'll hear each note separately.

So listen.

A chord can provide lots of knowledge, so take it slow.  And it's helpful to also hear another guitar and compare it to the one you're reviewing.

The voice of the guitar is that the voice of the guitar. Playing a chord will provide you with all the sonic information a full song can provide, without your auditory senses being clouded by a player's flashy technique.

Here's a checklist of what you'll usefully hear in an exceedingly six-note chord.

If you cannot distinguish between a number of these criteria, the answer is to find out to concentrate. Like acting, it takes practice.

 A session includes listening to:

 • Dynamics: Does the guitar have a large dynamic range?

Will it sound different after you play very soft, soft, medium, and loud?

 • Duration: Most chords will last 6 to 12 seconds. this offers you a concept of the systemic sustain and also the standard of the sound, whether warm, sweet, metallic, rich, lively, fundamental, shallow, breathing, open, restrained or rich in harmonics. you may see if you've got to push the guitar or if it speaks easily.

 • Separation: Do you hear each note very well? Or is that the sound fuzzy or muddy and lacking in focus?

 • Velocity: Does the chord kick off of the guitar quickly or slowly?

 • Timbral balance: Are the lows of the guitar heavy, are the highs heavy, or are they well balanced? And irrespective of the balance, does the treble or bass die out first, leaving the opposite to reason itself?

 • String-to-string response: Are the strength and presence of every note equal?

 • Projection: Does the guitar sound better up close or across the room? (You'll need a listening partner to explore this.) Also, does it sound different counting on whether you're listening from the front or from the side?

 • Intonation: Is the guitar well tuned? If you repeat this listening exercise while playing different chords up and down the neck, you will get a way of how even (or not) the guitar is across the complete fingerboard.

Remember, you choose whether and the way much you wish or dislike any of those qualities of a guitar's tonal response.

I am amazed by the accuracy of the pure and simple guitar sound of this Indonesian guitarist Alip Ba Ta playing Numb from Linkin Park, he uses a Cort NDX 50 in his room, the result is magical !

All the knowledge is within the sound box. you only must know the way to concentrate without saturating your ear.
